Pharmacy of mining office in Ekaterinburg
In the former pharmaciy of mining office, built in 1820-1821 in accordance with the project M. P. Malakhov, now houses the Museum of history of stone-cutting and jewelry art. The mining office pharmacy existed until 1886, then before 1917 in the building, belonging to the Ural mining office, housed the office of the chief Forester and the offices of four forest districts. From 1918 in this house worked Ural Commissariat of labour (regional labour market), later there was the regional branch of the society "Znaniye" and the Sverdlovsk Union of writers. Behind the building of pharmacy earlier was a fenced garden.
In 1890, the building was enlarged side wings (each wing with three windows on the facade). And in 1968-1969 significantly the facade facing the yard were reconstructed and interior was completely redesigned. Despite the later alterations, the complex has preserved the typical image for the time of construction of a city manor of an epoch of classicism. The building of the mining pharmacy is a sample composition scheme residential mansion in the architecture of public buildings.
Interesting fact that for many residents of Sverdlovsk, and later Ekaterinburg building of pharmacy mining office for a long time was "home-invisible". Whether the trees hid its facade, whether the existence of such giant as the House of communication distracting. Even now, many citizens are not aware of the existence in the very centre of Ekaterinburg Museum of history of stone-cutting and jewelry and art, which is located in this building. The Museum is famous for its collection of products from malachite. Here you can not only enjoy the beauty of this stone, but also provide some interesting information about how it is treated, to get acquainted with the technology of Russian mosaics, to admire the works of the Ural masters. Highlights of the Museum — "Golden treasury" and fascinating exhibition "Bazhov's room".
