Memorial house-Museum of Tchaikovsky in Alapaevsk

The father of the great Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Ilya Petrovitch served on the mining office. Big family of Tchaikovsky moved frequently and in 1849 settled in Alapaevsk. Here in this ancient white stone mansion, spent less than a year of his childhood Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The house features original furniture and antique Grand piano used by young Pyotr.

The exposition of the Museum consists of two sections: the life of Tchaikovsky in Alapayevsk and rare collection of musical instruments of the peoples of the world and their miniature copies. The Founder of the House-Museum of P. I. Tchaikovsky, Vera Borisovna Gorodilina, gathered more than 500 musical instruments from different epochs - from the sixteenth to the twentieth century - and different parts of the planet: the Indonesian anklung, European harmonium, music decanter... Those exhibits that Vera Borisovna could not find in true form, she made bt herself.

You can walk along the shady alleys of the garden around the Museum. On entering the house you should pay attention to the flower ivy, which, according to local legend, little Pyotr planted, leaving from Alapaevsk to study in St. Petersburg.
