In 1880-1883 this house was rented an apartment the family A. N. Mamin-Sibiryak. The Museum is open on may 18, 2000. In the house № 16 on the Ofisterskaya street (present Proletarskaya), from June 1880 to August 19, 1883 quartered Dmitry Narkisovich Mamin-Sibiryak with his mother, sister and brother. In 1919, the Ofitserskaya street was renamed the Proletarskaya and Ekaterinburg in 1924 was renamed in Sverdlovsk. In the early 1980-ies Sverdlovsk rapidly changing and changing to the better. There is a questionabout reconstruction of the street Proletarskaya, because it is located in the heart of the city. According to the project of the general plan all the old buildings here were subject to demolition. The house where once lived the writer was decided to transfer to the Museum of the Urals writers and renovate the historical monument. Wooden one-storey house, covered with boards, with hipped roof and frames on the windows, decorated with carved decor, now is a rare phenomenon of Russian wooden classicism in architecture and the city. In the late XVIII - early XIX centuries such houses were typical building and formed the shape of a provincial Russian towns. In 1994 the house number 16 was opened the exhibition hall, and in 2000 began to work Museum of dolls and the children's book "Wonderland" - the only Museum in the world, combining the collection of dolls and books. The exposition of the Museum is changed every two years. For children in the Museum organizes festivals and performances, competitions and puppet shows. Interesting fact that Dmitry Narkisovich Mamin-Sibiryak, living in this house, wrote one of the first versions of his famous novel "Privalovskiye millions"and the novel "Sister", an autobiographical story "Funtik" and the essay "Our non-Russians" (about the inhabitants of the far North).
