Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral in Nevyansk
Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral in Nevyansk is one of the most magnificent Orthodox churches of the Urals, an architectural monument in the style of "classicism". Its bell tower, the highest in the Urals, reaches a height of 64 meters. All five of the iconostasis of the Cathedral is made of porcelain and decorated with modern local masters of icon painting. Among the ancient shrines of the Cathedral is the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and the icon of the Holy Evangelist John the theologian. Stone five-prestols Church was founded in 1824. The Cathedral was built on the funds of plant hosts Yakovlevs. The main temple in honour of the Transfiguration of the Lord was consecrated in 1827. The right side-altar was consecrated in honour of the Uspenie of the MostHoly mother of God, the left chapel in the name of apostles Peter and Paul. To the porch was attached two side-chapels. The right side-altar in the name of Archangel Michael, and the left - in the name of the monk Savva the Sanctified and St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Mirlikiyskiy. In the years of Soviet regime the Church was closed, the bell tower was demolished and the building was occupied by a factory shop. At present time, the Cathedral was returned to the faithful and restored (the bell tower is restored according to old drawings) and in August 2003 it was re-consecrated.
