Museum of fine arts in Ekaterinburg is the largest art Museum of the Urals, the unique storehouse of monuments of national and world importance. It was founded in 1936. History of the collections of the Museum dates back to the last quarter of the XIX century and connected with the activity of well known Ural society of natural science lovers (OULE).

The remarkable collection are waiting for you in the Museum:

The only Museum in the world where you can see the architectural structure made of cast iron, included in the list of monuments of history and culture of UNESCO. This is Kasli cast iron pavilion, designed by the St. Petersburg architect E.E. Baumgarten for the world exhibition in Paris in 1900

The Museum has a unique collection of Russian avant-garde 1910's-1920-ies, which includes canvases of the most radical and influential artists, opening new artistic direction - Kazimir Malevich, the founder of geometric abstraction - Suprematism, Wassily Kandinsky, the founder of the picturesque abstract art and many others.

One of the masterpieces of the collection of the Yekaterinburg Museum of fine arts which has a great artistic and historical value, is the picture "Resurrected Christ" by Venetian painter of the late XV-early XVI centuries Marco Basaiti. The works of this master are kept in the leading museums of the world - galleries Venice, Berlin, Milan, Budapest, Nantes, Stockholm, but in Russia are only two of his works - the first, "Lamentation of Christ", - in the State Hermitage Museum, the second - in the Ekaterinburg Museum of fine arts.
